CV and References as Singer and Performer

From my earliest days, I always enjoyed singing – never, of course, sensing that I would one day do it professionally. As a child, I stumbled from the nursery rhyme Auf einem Baum ein Kuckuck... (A Cuckoo in a Tree…) to the tongue-twister  Simsalabimbambasaladusaladim  – now I give Lieder recitals, sing in operas and concerts, and act in a wide variety of theatres.

My development as a singer can best be compared to a buffet consisting of various courses. In Radeberg and Dresden I underwent a 3-star training programme in church music, singing in the itinerant and church choirs and playing trumpet, piano and organ. This ecclesiastical aperitif gave me a taste for more. Soon I entered my gourmet period, working front-of-house at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, which excited my tastebuds still further. I wanted to gorge myself on musical theatre and began to study singing in Weimar .

Being a connoisseur not only of rich operatic food, but also of the delicacies of early music and the avant-garde dishes of nouvelle cuisine, I have always been happy to sample other culinary delights, to combine dishes from various menus and even to create my very own specialities. Some of these are available on CD.

In the course of my studies, I was fortunate enough to sit at the tables of a number of ‘celebrity chefs’, enjoying masterclasses by, among others, Peter Konwitschny, Ferenc Rados, Mitsuko Shirai and Hartmut Höll.

The last ten years have seen me singing and acting in over twenty theatre productions. These various cuts of theatrical tenderloin have included the roles of Lord Syndham in Zar und Zimmermann at the Palace of Wernigerode Festival, Pater Heilmann in Lortzing’s opera Undine at the Landestheater Rudolstadt and Don Marco in Valentino Fioravanti’s opera buffa Die Dorfsängerinnen/Le Cantatrici Vilane at the Theater Erfurt. A revival of the opera Lo sposo di Tre e Marito di Nessuna by Luigi Cherubini, in which I played the role of the head chef Don Simone, attracted particular attention in the gourmet world.

For over five years now, I have been a regular at the renowned Theater im Gewölbe in Weimar, where I have delighted gourmet audiences with first-rate theatrical creations, as well as extravagant musical readings. Gastronomic culture of the finest variety!

I can be booked!  As a singer, my main enthusiasms are for recipes from cookbooks which go under names of opera, romantic Lieder and early music. I am happy to send further information on demand, including comprehensive demo material and a list of rehearsed scores.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Postscript: Growing up in Radeberg, I was naturally raised not on mother’s milk, but on Radeberger beer. Even today there are those who attribute my deep bass voice to this dietary faux pas. I would not wish to contradict that view here.
